Brain Freeze & Brainstorms
Nothing beats combining strategy sessions with sundaes! Our team gathered to map out exciting upcoming initiatives while treating ourselves to some well-deserved ice cream. Between brainstorming new program ideas and debating sprinkles vs. no sprinkles, we're energized and ready to tackle what's ahead.
Larry Doby Weekend w/ the Charleston Riverdogs - August 16th
We had an incredible time joining the RiverDogs for Larry Doby Weekend, celebrating a true South Carolina hero who shattered barriers in Major League Baseball. It was the perfect opportunity to connect with our amazing supporters and share our mission with new faces in the community. Just like Doby, who said, "I fought back by hitting the ball as far as I could," we're teaching girls to face every challenge head-on.
Scavenger Hunt
The year Leveling the Fields was founded is hidden somewhere in this newsletter. Can you find it? The first reader to email us the location will get a "supporter spotlight" feature on our social media.
What’s Happening In Women’s Sports?!
First Female Umpire: Jen Pawol
Jen Pawol just made history as the first woman to umpire a Major League Baseball regular-season game, proving that when girls are given the opportunity to pursue their dreams in sports, incredible things happen. After grinding her way through nine years in the minor leagues, Pawol's historic achievement reminds us exactly why Leveling the Fields exists—to ensure every girl has the chance to step onto the field and shatter barriers of her own. Her journey from the Gulf Coast League to calling balls and strikes in the majors is the kind of path we're working to make possible for the next generation of female athletes right here in South Carolina.
Sue Bird Becomes the First WNBA Player Honored with a Statue
Sue Bird just became the first WNBA player honored by her franchise with a statue outside of Climate Pledge Arena, cementing her legacy as the greatest leader in Seattle Storm history. But what struck us most about her speech was when she said, "The truth is that I never set out to be the first at anything, but if being the first means I won't be the last, if this statue means that 20 years from now there will be statues of other WNBA greats...than I'm proud to be the first." That's exactly the mindset driving Leveling the Fields… we're not just creating opportunities for today's girls, we're building the foundation so future generations can dream bigger, play harder, and yes, maybe even get their own statue someday.
