FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Leveling the Fields Executive Board Welcomes Nina Sossamon-Pogue

Leveling the Fields' Newest Board Member is Backed By a Wealth of Experience

Charleston, SC, May 1, 2025 – Leveling the Fields welcomes Nina Sossamon-Pogue as the newest member of the executive board. Sossamon Pogue’s impressive resume includes experience in sports, journalism, and the tech industry. She was a USA gymnast and competed at Louisiana State University. Sossamon-Pogue moved to Charleston, South Carolina, where she became an award-winning journalist and news anchor. She won an Emmy Award for best news anchor in the Southeast and was voted Charleston’s favorite news anchor for 10 consecutive years. Sossamon-Pogue eventually transitioned to the tech industry, becoming the VP of marketing and communications for Benefitfocus, a software company.

Melyssa Jaskiewicz, executive director and founder of Leveling the Fields, says, “I'm so excited to have Nina on our board. To do big things, you need people around you who have done big things."

Sossamon-Pogue has certainly done big things. Along with playing a vital role in the growth of other companies, she has also built her own personal brand. Sossamon-Pogue is now a motivational speaker, focusing on teaching professionals resilience skills at companies including Google, Chick-fil-A, and GE. In addition to her speaking engagements, she has written two best-selling books and hosts her own podcast.

Sossamon-Pogue is a great addition to Leveling the Fields because she’s learned firsthand how a background in sports can help build leadership skills. Before achieving her other accomplishments, she was an athlete and a gymnast. Sossamon-Pogue stated, “I learned confidence. Resilience. How to handle pressure. How to show up. Sports didn’t just shape what I did… it shaped who I became.” As a motion vational speaker, she often addresses professionals on how to build resilience skills. This is exactly what Leveling the Fields aims to accomplish on a smaller scale, with younger girls, by teaching girls' sports. Sports teach skills like teamwork, confidence, determination, and other invaluable attributes that will help propel one toward success.
